Naxos Graviera “Saganaki”

Naxos Graviera “Saganaki” (a traditional Greek dish usually served as an appetizer. It consists of cheese rolled in flour or breadcrumbs and fried or pan-seared until golden brown and crispy.)


  • One piece of Graviera cheese (2-2.5 cm thick)

  • 1 egg

  • Grated breadcrumbs

  • Some grated hard cheese

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • Oil for frying

How to prepare it

  • Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.

  • Take the piece of Graviera cheese, dip it in the egg and then in the grated breadcrumbs mixed with the grated hard cheese and black pepper.

  • Once the oil is hot enough, fry the cheese on both sides until golden brown.

  • Serve the Saganaki hot with lemon juice.
